ANSWER

For Alliance 2695 or GPC

Our operator's guide states chloroform and some halogenated solvents are recommended for use in Alliance 2695. Some users have reported shorter lifetime of the regular seals.

The 2695 has internal fittings and seals that shrink and swell over time with normal-phase solvents. The attached document, Recommendations for Normal Phase and/or GPC Solvents, lists the parts that should be replaced. PEEK tubings should be replaced with metal tubings.

The file GPC SolventsCompatibility has a list of solvents that should not be used with GPC.

For ACQUITY UPLC/H-Class/I-Class

Solvents that contain halogens should be avoided because they can cause materials like PEEK to swell. The rotor of the valves, such as the injector valve and the switching valves, contain PEEK. The seals are not compatible with these solvents, and there are no alternative seal materials. The THF/hexane does not support the use of these solvents either.

However, chloroform, methylene chloride, halogenated solvents, and toluene can be used in weak dilutions (less than 5%) as additives, sample diluents, or modifiers. Document 715005742 contains a comprehensive list of solvent considerations for ACQUITY UPLC Series systems.
