Faulty IEEE-488 cable leading to instrument failure in Empower - WKB11151

SYMPTOMS

• Getting a communications error in the Empower Message Center
  • "System Idle Instrument Failure" observed
• There is no conflict between IEEE address selection and the other instrument modules in the system
• Instrument method and system configuration match up properly
• IEEE cables are connecting properly. There is no dust, moisture, or corrosion in the connectors.

ENVIRONMENT

• Empower Software
• All instrument hardware using IEEE-488 communications

CAUSE

• Faulty IEEE Cable or Connection
  • Reseat Connections
  • Swapping known good cable directly to the failing instrument module isolated the problem to a bad cable

FIX or WORKAROUND

1. Reseat Connection
2. Replace the IEEE Cable
