How to give the MassLynx Data Capture application on a waters_connect PC access to a folder on a MassLynx acquisition PC - WKB223220

OBJECTIVE or GOAL

Configure a folder on the MassLynx acquisition PC to allow the MassLynx Data Capture (MDC) app on a waters_connect processing PC to scan for new data saved to that folder.

NOTE: In waters_connect with UNIFI 1.9.13 and waters_connect with UNIFI 2.1.2, MDC does not support data from SYNAPT series instruments or Cyclic IMS.

ENVIRONMENT

  • MassLynx (acquisition)
  • waters_connect with UNFI 1.9.13 or later (data processing)
  • MassLynx Data Capture application
  • Windows 10

PROCEDURE

  1. Connect both the MassLynx acquisition PC and the waters_connect processing PC to the customer's network.
  2. On the MassLynx PC:
    1. Type CMD in the search bar.
    2. Select Command Prompt and Run as Administrator.
    3. In the command window, type ipconfig and make note of the IPv4 address of the MassLynx PC (e.g., 100.127.0.10).
    4. Close the cmd window.
    5. In Windows Explorer, select the folder to which the MassLynx data will be acquired (e.g., D:/MassLynx_Projects/My_Project.PRO).
    6. Right-click on the folder, and from the resulting drop down menu select Properties.
    7. On the Sharing tab of the folder properties window, click on the Share option.
    8. In "Choose people on your network to share with":
      1. Click on the down-pointing arrow next to "Add".
      2. Select Everyone from the drop-down menu.
      3. Click Add.
      4. Press Share.
    9. Close the folder properties window.
    10. In Windows Search, type Advanced Sharing Settings, and then open  Manage Advanced Sharing Settings.
    11. In Manage Advanced Sharing Settings:
      1. Click on the downward-pointing arrow next to Private.
      2. Make sure that Turn on Network Discovery is selected. 
      3. Repeat steps i and ii for Domain and Guest or Public settings.
    12. Close Advanced Sharing Settings.
  3. On the waters_connect PC:
    1. Log in to waters_connect Hub and open the MassLynx Data Capture app.
    2. Select Create to create a new rule.
    3. In the Rule Editor, select Browse.
    4. Double-click on existing Agent/Client PC.
    5. Select Add/Remove Network Drives.
    6. Click Create to open the Map a Network Drive menu.
      1. Select a drive letter that you want to assign to the shared drive link to the folder on the MassLynx PC.
      2. In the UNC path field, type two backslashes, the IP address (from step 1c), another backslash, and the location of the folder on the PC to which MassLynx will acquire data (e.g., \\100.127.0.10 \D:\MassLynx_Projects\My_Project.PRO).
      3. In Username, type a domain username that has user access rights to the MassLynx PC (e.g., ACMEcorp\WECoyote).
      4. In Password, type the password of the user account entered at step 2g iii. (The password will need to be re-entered if the user account password changes.)
    7. Set Scanning frequency and import folder options in the MDC Rule Editor.
    8. Save the new Rule, and Enable it.
