How to recover an experiment file that does not open in ASTRA because of version incompatibility or file corruption - WKB319055
OBJECTIVE or GOAL
Recover an experiment file that does not open in ASTRA due to version incompatibility or file corruption.
ENVIRONMENT
- ASTRA
- Software: ASTRA 7
PROCEDURE
1. Verify that the experiment file is not from a newer version of ASTRA, because older versions cannot open newer files.
2. If the file is compatible, use ASTRA 7's File Recovery feature by navigating to System > File Recovery.
3. Browse to the file and click Recover.
4. If recovery fails, use Advanced Options to exclude data or skip the CRC check.
5. After recovery, resave the file to preserve the changes.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
First check that the file you are using is not from a newer version of ASTRA. Although newer versions of ASTRA can read files from older versions, the older versions cannot open the new files.
If the file is from the same version of ASTRA or lower, you can use ASTRA 7's file recovery feature.
NOTE: This feature is not intended for files that are located in ASTRA's file recovery folder. For files in the file recovery folder, see the article here.
1. On the top menu bar in ASTRA, go to System and choose File Recovery.
2. Browse to the file to open and click Recover.

3. If the recovery fails, try again using the Advanced Options.

You may need to skip the CRC check or exclude some data in order to recover your file. First try to exclude data. ASTRA will attempt to recover the file with the least amount of data loss. If the file is still unrecoverable excluding data, try to skip the CRC check. After your file is recovered, resave it.
