ProteinLynx Global Server MSe processes slowly: Too many files - WKB5378

Article number: 5378

This article is part of a troubleshooting path. If the symptoms below do not precisely match your issue, or if the solution does not fix the issue, consider starting at the beginning of the path using this link.

SYMPTOMS

  • PLGS takes a very long time to process spectra
  • PLGS takes a very long time to run searches
  • PLGS consumes a lot of RAM when first started

ENVIRONMENT

  • ProteinLynx Global Server 3.0

  • ProteinLynx Global Server 3.0.1

  • ProteinLynx Global Server 3.0.2

  • ProteinLynx Global Server 3.0.3

CAUSE

Too many large projects and/or too many large data files in one database. PLGS 3 and later load the relational database containing the existing processed data into memory. Projects and databases that contain lots of large raw data files consume a lot of memory and slow down processing.

FIX or WORKAROUND

  1. Do not use the default database for all work.

  2. Create a new database for each new study on a drive other than the C:/ drive.

    • See "Creating a database" in PLGS Help files.

  3. Use one project per database.

  4. Minimize the number of large data files in each project.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Many factors can contribute to slow PLGS 3 MSe data processing. Several of these issues may occur simultaneously, slowing processing down even more. If the solution described above does not help, try the other solutions, either on their own or in combination with this solution.
