SYMPTOMS
- The following error message appears when logging in to NuGenesis SDMS applications:

Unable to search the LDAP Directory.

ENVIRONMENT
- NuGenesis 9 SDMS
- LDAP authentication is active in SDMS
- The base DN in SDMS is set to the root of the directory
CAUSE
The LDAP server shows one or more referrals in its reply to SDMS. SDMS connects to each server in the referral using a NULL set of credentials rather than the configured credentials.
FIX or WORKAROUND
- Defect report CRI-334 was filed for this issue.
- Change the Base DN in the SDMS configuration to include one container below the root of the directory.
- Example: ou=users,dc=company,dc=domain,dc=com
- In this case Microsoft AD will not include referrals or "continuation references" in the search results.
- This issue was fixed in NuGenesis LMS 9.0.1.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
TLS has no bearing on this issue. It can occur with TLS active or inactive in the LDAP configuration in SDMS.
