Can customers run SQL scripts or queries on Oracle databases for the NuGenesis products and Empower? - WKB58062

Article number: 58062

ENVIRONMENT

  • NuGenesis 9
  • NuGenesis 8
  • Empower 3
  • Empower 2
  • Empower 3 Personal
  • Empower 3 Workgroup
  • Empower 3 Enterprise

ANSWER

The answer depends on the type of license agreement governing the Oracle installation:

  • If the customer supplies their own Oracle license for the NuGenesis databases, then their use of SQL tools to access the database are governed by the terms of their license agreement. Typically these agreements allow the customer to use SQL tools to run scripts and queries on the database.
  • If the installation uses the Waters-supplied Oracle Embedded Software License (ESL) agreement, then the customer is NOT permitted to use SQL tools to access the database. The only permitted end-user access to the NuGenesis database is through the client applications. Waters employees, including technical support and field service personnel, are permitted to run SQL scripts/queries on the database on the customer's behalf.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

It is possible to use an intermediary tool, such as the Windows command prompt and a Waters-supplied batch script, to run SQL scripts on a NuGenesis database governed by the embedded license. Contact Waters Technical Support if you would like to get a copy of the batch script.
