The message "An error occurred printing to the additional printer" appears when printing to NuGenesis UNIFY - WKB50626

SYMPTOMS

• The following error message appears when printing to UNIFY and an Additional Printer:
  • "An error occurred printing to the additional printer. This will not affect the database operation. The cause of the error was DoublePrint: PlayEMfToPrinter W failed"

ENVIRONMENT

• NuGenesis 9 SDMS
• NuGenesis 8 SDMS

CAUSE

The "PlayEmfToPrinterW" error suggests that UNIFY is configured to use an optional “Additional Printer” that for some reason is failing to print. Even though use of the Additional Printer is triggered by use of UNIFY, the two print jobs (to the NuGenesis database and to the second printer) are independent of each other. Either can fail without affecting the other.

FIX or WORKAROUND

1. Log in to UNIFY setup on the machine that receives the message.
2. Take note of the printer selection in the Additional Printer field.
3. Verify that the Additional Printer is working from the computer on which you received the error message. 

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

This error message can occur for multiple client machines, if the machines are all configured to use the same network printer as the Additional Printer.
