Will NuGenesis SDMS Data Management delete folders, and if yes, under what conditions? - WKB29179

Article number: 29179

ENVIRONMENT

  • NuGenesis 9 SDMS
  • NuGenesis 8 SDMS

ANSWER

Yes, NuGenesis Data Management will delete folders. The rules for folder deletion depend on the data adapter that was used to archive the data:

  • NuGenesis Generic, no grouping: DM will delete folders if the file folder is empty after deleting the files that are candidates for deletion. This also applies to other data adapters that have non-grouped data, including Microsoft Office and Adobe PDF.
  • NuGenesis Generic, Leaf Level Grouping: DM will delete the grouped folders. This also applies to other data adapters that have grouped data, including Agilent ChemStation and MassLynx.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

If you want to have NuGenesis Data Management delete the files in the original locations but keep the folder structure intact, create a placeholder file in the scan path. The file's name and contents are unimportant. Make sure that the file has the read-only flag set so that Data Management cannot delete the file. As a result, DM finds that the directory is not empty and will not delete the directory.
