How do you add a new server to NuGenesis SDMS Administrator? - WKB27841

Article number: 27841

ENVIRONMENT

  • NuGenesis 8 SDMS

ANSWER

  1. Create a new entry in the NuGenesis tnsnames.ora file with the Waters Net Configuration Assistant.
    • Start menu > All Programs > Waters Oracle Client > Configuration Tools
    • Default path for the tnsnames.ora file: "Drive:\Program Files (x86)\NuGenesis 8.0\SDMS11gOracleClient"
  2. Log in to SDMS Administrator.
  3. Right-click on Master List.
  4. Add a new server.
  5. Click Actions > Update Local List.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

The server name must be the name of the "Alias" for the new entry in the TNSNAMES.ORA file.

Adding a server to the Master List will make it available to all users through the SDMS client applications, subject to system privileges. Adding a server to the local list will make it available only to users of the local machine. The latter method is useful when configuring a system administrator's client to connect to multiple databases, such as development/test/production instances of NuGenesis, while not allowing users in the production system to see the other databases.

The action "Update Local List" copies the Master List to the file NGLocalProjectList.xml on the same machine as the SDMS Administrator client. All SDMS software on that machine can make use of the updated NGLocalProjectList.xml file, including the NuGenesis Web Vision server, if SDMS Administrator is installed and used on the Web server. If not, the updated file must be copied to the NuGenesis Web server.

The path for the local list file: Drive:\Program Files (x86)\NuGenesis 8.0\database\NGLocalProjectList.xml
