Is there a limit to the number of scan lines and/or revisions in an SDMS archive template? - WKB203183

Article number: 203183

ENVIRONMENT

  • NuGenesis 9 SDMS
  • NuGenesis 8 SDMS

ANSWER

There is no hard limit to the number of template lines supported in an SDMS archive template. The code that creates/processes archive templates—the SDMS Archive Template Builder and the Archive Agent—generally have problems when a template reaches 150 revisions and/or 150 lines. This guideline is also mentioned in the documentation for the Extract Latest Template utility.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Each SDMS archive template (all lines and all revisions) is stored as a long string in a BLOB column in the database. With enough revisions and/or lines, the string could exceed the size of the variable in the code that holds the raw template string. In NuGenesis 8, the error message that you see (in a message box if opening the template builder, or in the AA's log file) is "Out of string space". Because the limit is the length of the string variable in the code, and the length of each template line is highly variable, we cannot determine a hard limit for the number of lines/revisions in an archive template, but 150 is a good approximation for when problems typically occur with archive templates.
