How to create and edit label templates for reagents, samples, and submissions in NuGenesis LMS - WKB20142

Article number: 20142

OBJECTIVE or GOAL

Create and edit the label templates used with the reagent inventory, samples, and submissions within NuGenesis LMS.

ENVIRONMENT

  • NuGenesis 9 LMS
  • NuGenesis 8 LMS

PROCEDURE

  1. NuGenesis LMS uses the RDL 2010 format for its label templates. The following programs can edit RDL templates:
    • Report Builder 3 from Microsoft SQL Server 2014
    • Microsoft Visual Studio versions prior to 2015
  2. The NuGenesis LMS Option disc includes the "fyiReporting RDL Designer" tool for editing RDL templates. Unfortunately, the label templates as supplied by LMS use a version of the RDL format newer than that supported by this tool. This tool is not supported for use in editing the label templates.
  3. Visual Studio 2015, 2017, and later versions can edit RDL templates, but these versions use the 2015 version of the RDL format. LMS uses the 2010 version of the format. RDL files that are written by Visual Studio 2015 and later are not compatible with NuGenesis LMS.
  4. Versions of the Report Builder application later than Report Builder 3 (internal version 12.0.2000.x) / SQL Server 2014 likewise write RDL templates to the 2016, 2019, or later versions of the RDL format and cannot be used to edit label templates for NuGenesis LMS.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Attempting to use an RDL 2016 or later template with NuGenesis LMS will result in an error message. The message reads, in part:

  • The definition of this report is not valid or supported by this version of Reporting Services. The report definition may have been created with a later version of Reporting Services, or contain content that is not well-formed or not valid based on Reporting Services schemas. Details: The report definition has an invalid target namespace 'http://schemas.microsoft.com/sqlserv...portdefinition' that cannot be upgraded.
