How can you tell whether Full Security or Basic Security is installed on a MassLynx PC? - WKB225056
ENVIRONMENT
MassLynx 4.1 and 4.2
ANSWER
MassLynx
You can quite easily tell the difference between full security and basic security in the MassLynx sample list window. In full security, if you click on the Security toolbar, "Import Project" is one of the options in the list. It's not there in basic mode.
Windows Explorer
In the data and method files, you can determine whether or not there are checksum files present (there are no checksums in basic security).
- A data file has a single checksum file called "Protected".
- Other file types have individual checksum files that have the same name as the file itself.
Note: to be able to view checksum files in Windows 10, select the View toolbar and click on Options. In the Folder Options window, select the View tab and enable "Show hidden files, folders and drives".
MassLynx Security Manager
In the MassLynx security manager (MSM), you can tell by viewing the options in the Policies drop-down list. In full security, there are options such as Directory Policy, Tamper Detection, and Dual Authorization.
If they need something written down that specifies the mode of security, they need to log in to the MSM, click File > Print, and choose print to hard copy or XPS file. This will print the security settings. The top few lines in full security are as follows:
- GeneralSecurity version: 4.2.1
- Security enabled: Yes
- Using full security: Yes
- Critical Error Protection: No
- Use individual INI files: Yes
- Logon requires all fields: No
- Detect file tampering: Yes
