How to specify a priority sample in MassLynx - WKB223166

Article number: 223166

OBJECTIVE or GOAL

Configure MassLynx to allow priority samples to be submitted and run while a batch of samples is already running in the queue.

ENVIRONMENT

  • MassLynx (all versions)

PROCEDURE

1) Enable Pre-emptive Scheduling. (This is what allows priority samples to be submitted and run.)

  • On the main MassLynx page, click on the Queue button at the top.
  • In the Queue panel on the left-hand side, click Properties.
  • In the Queue Properties dialog, select Pre-Emptive Scheduling and click OK.

2) Submit Priority samples.

  • Highlight the priority sample or samples in the sample list.
  • Click the Start button on the tool bar or go to Run > Start from the menu.
  • Select the appropriate options in the left-hand panel.
  • In the Scheduling panel, select Priority.
  • Click OK.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

The batch currently running in the Queue will have arrows pointing left and right on its icon. Any non-priority batches in the Queue will show the icon with no arrows. The Priority batch will have an upward-pointing arrow on its icon.

The current sample being acquired will run to its completion. MassLynx will then suspend the batch that is running and move the priority batch to the top of the queue. The priority batch will be run. Upon completion of the priority batch, MassLynx will resume to batch what had been suspended.

This all happens automatically. There is no need to manually pause or stop the batch that is running in order to run a priority sample.
