"Unable to create alias.txt" error seen during MassLynx installation - WKB119803

SYMPTOMS

• While the installation wizard is running, the message "unable to create alias.txt" appears
• Clicking OK allows the installation to proceed, but it ultimately fails

ENVIRONMENT

• MassLynx 4.2 SCN 1012

CAUSE

UAC controls are not at the correct level, and/or the user is not installing as administrator.

FIX or WORKAROUND

1. Use Windows search to find "change User Account Control settings" and open it.
2. Change the slider to "Never Notify" and click OK.
3. Restart the workstation.
4. Locate the installation setup.exe; right click and select Run as Administrator.
5. Confirm that the software installation completes successfully.
