Exception Focused Review - Flagging Results That Require Further Review - Tip289
OBJECTIVE or GOAL
Create a custom field that flags a Result if it requires further review.
ENVIRONMENT
- Empower
- Empower Tip of the Week #289
PROCEDURE
STEP 1
Create a Result Custom Field (data type Boolean) that is based on the outcome of several custom fields created in earlier Empower Tips in this series. The "Use As" is set to a value so that the outcome of this custom field is a "0" if all conditions are met or a "1" if any condition is not met (Figure 1).

STEP 2
The full equation for the first custom field is seen in Figure 2. It consists of checking the following:
- Are all of the samples from the same sample set? (Refer to Tip #286.)
- Was the correct Instrument Method used to collect all samples? (Refer to Tip #285.)
- Was any of the sample information altered after acquisition?
- Has a sample been processed more than once?
- Is the Processing Method locked to prevent users from modifying it?
- Was the Result saved manually in Review?

STEP 3
Create a Result Custom Field (data type Boolean) that is based on the custom field we created in Tip #288, which determines if a sample failed or just passed its specifications. The "Use As" is set to a value so that the outcome of the custom field is a "0" if the sample passes or a "1" if the sample fails (Figure 3).

STEP 4
Create a Result Custom Field (data type Boolean) that is based on both custom fields created in Steps 1 and 3. The custom field will return an "OK" if all review checks passed and a "Requires Further Review" if any check fails (Figure 4).

STEP 5
The Results window within Review will display the results of the Result Custom Fields in the middle table. You see that the result for this sample Requires Further Review (Figure 5).

STEP 6
Create a View Filter for the Results tab of the project window to include the outcome of the custom field created in Step 4. (Right-click on the Result Set and select "View As, Results".) You see that all standard and samples Require Further Review (Figure 6).

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
This can be done with either the Pro or QuickStart interface.
