Can the Empower database be encrypted? - WKB80606

Article number: 80606

ENVIRONMENT

  • Empower
  • Oracle

ANSWER

No. Encryption solutions have not been successfully tested with Empower.

Oracle offerings such as data vault and transparent data encryption (TDE) have been tried or discussed.

Data vault was tried but we were not able to make it work with Empower, and TDE was never tested.

Employing encryption that utilizes "Keys" such as those placed in a wallet brings the added issue that the loss of those keys would mean the data in the database is then inaccessible even to the DBA.

Customers should consider encrypting the data transfer between client and database or applying physical security to the database server over full database encryption.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Customers who want to encrypt their database may need to approach Oracle to perform real application testing of Empower with the chosen solution to assess its suitability or any detrimental effect on Empower operation.
