In Empower, cannot copy instrument and method set methods to a new project - WKB58446

SYMPTOMS

• When copying instrument or method set methods to a new project using copy to project, the following error message appears: "Error writing a file because The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect"

ENVIRONMENT

• Empower 3
• Project window
• Copy to project...
• Copy (to Desktop or other share destination)

CAUSE

The instrument methods and method sets have hidden characters in their names. This can occur when using a non-English keyboard to enter the names.

There is a restricted character in 'Name' field as defined by TN0000412 – Rev. 00 pg 4-7 , see WKB19581

FIX or WORKAROUND

Rewrite the method name in order to copy to project.
