SYMPTOMS

• Agilent 6890 with ALS in the front and G1888 in the back
• There are two detectors, both FID, and both inlets are SSL
• The 6890 acquires only one GC channel even when both channels are enabled in Empower

ENVIRONMENT

• Empower 3 Feature Release 1 
• Agilent 6890 GC with firmware N.05.05
• Headspace G1888

CAUSE

PCS 49149

The 6890 does not have the minimum recommended firmware.

FIX or WORKAROUND

1. Upgrade firmware to meet the recommended minimum (N.05.06) to be used with Empower 3 FR1.
2. Upgrade the version of Empower to a minimum of Service Release 2 (SR2), per PCS 49149.

Starting with Empower 3 SR2, the Agilent 6890 GC will now acquire two GC channels from a single tower injection when both channels are enabled in the instrument method. For single tower sample set methods, there is no longer a requirement to specify the injector as front (F) or back (B).
