How to disable fast startup on Windows 10 - WKB53796

OBJECTIVE or GOAL

Disable fast startup on Windows 10, to prevent problems with loading drivers. (Instrument and software issues have been seen when fast startup is enabled.)

ENVIRONMENT

  • Windows 10
  • Empower
  • MassLynx

PROCEDURE

  1. Browse to the Control Panel and click Power Options.
  2. Click "Choose what the power buttons do".
  3. Click "Change settings that are currently unavailable".
  4. Clear the selection for "Turn on fast startup (recommended)".
  5. Click Save changes.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Windows 10 LTSB build 1607 is the currently supported version/build.

Note: If "Turn on fast startup" is not an option, it means that hibernation is not enabled on the Windows 10 machine. In order to get the option back,enable hibernation. To do this open an elevated command prompt (click on Start, type in cmd, then right-click on Command Prompt and click on Run as Administrator) and typing in the following command:

powercfg /hibernate on
