Instrument failures with Agilent GC 6890 connected via Avocent; "EndOfRun Controller Msg" error - WKB53030

SYMPTOMS

• Sample set is sometimes interrupted, and an instrument failure is recorded in message center
• Event logs give no clues
• Instrument server log shows “EndOfRun Controller Msg (Event Only - WaitProxiesComplete): 6890@3, Code 24 (not successful)”.

• Empower 3 Feature Release 2
• Avocent Driver: 6.0.0.3
• Agilent GC 6890

CAUSE

Unknown (defect PCS 51486 and CRI-296)

FIX or WORKAROUND

As a workaround, change the connectivity of the Agilent GC 6890 from Avocent to the PC COM port.
