When launching Empower on a new client installation, the error "Enter the service name of the database you wish to connect to" occurs - WKB271153

SYMPTOMS

• When launching Empower on a new client, the following error occurs:
  • Enter the service name of the database you wish to connect to. If you are not using a naming service you may need to define the service name using the Net Configuration Assistant.
• TNSnames.ora file contains the correct database information and service name (If the TNSnames.ora file has incorrect database information, the TNSnames.ora file from a working LAC/E32 or client can be copied to replace the file with the incorrect database information.)

ENVIRONMENT

• Empower 3
• Empower Enterprise

CAUSE

The local TNSnames.ora is not being used; the global TNSnames.ora file on the server is being used.

The firewall is blocking the location of the global TNSnames.ora file being used on the server.

FIX or WORKAROUND

Disable the firewall for the LAC/E32 blocking the location of the global TNSnames.ora file being used on the server.
