Empower only supports direct attached storage or Storage Area Network (SAN). refer to the Empower ICUG.

  • SAN storage is the tested storage solution

  • NAS storage is not OS persistent. NAS storage needs to be mounted as a drive letter and this is done after the OS has booted. This is commonly done when a user logs in for example. When the user logs off, the connection to the storage is lost. 
  • SAN storage is mounted by the PC in a persistent state and does not require the storage to be mounted separately. (In other words, the storage is available to the server regardless of the OS status)
  • Waters are not aware and have not tested ways to technically make NAS work. Waters do not support this approach.
