SYMPTOMS

  • Config 15 LACE powered off overnight
  • Interrupted ongoing analysis
  •  Reason Code: 0x500ff
  •  Shutdown Type: power off
  • Event 1074 and Event 109 seen together.

ENVIRONMENT

  • Config 15 LACE

CAUSE

Searching on the error (power off 0x500ff) shows this is quite common but could have a multitude of causes. In this case it is associated with a Kernel API entry and this typically indicates the power button was pressed.

If verified that no one could have pressed the button (e.g out of hours) this may indicate a faulty button.

FIX or WORKAROUND

  1. change the setting for "Power button action" and "Sleep button action" to "Do nothing"

Event 1074 (15:00:01 03 Sep 2021)

The process C:\Windows\system32\winlogon.exe (QUAYLACE05) has initiated the power off of computer LACE05 on behalf of user NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM for the following reason: No title for this reason could be found

 Reason Code: 0x500ff

 Shutdown Type: power off

 

Event 109 (15:00:03 03 Sep 2021)

The kernel power manager has initiated a shutdown transition.

Shutdown Reason: Kernel API

 

It is also suggest to:

1) Check the LACE for signs of dust clogging fans and vents.

2) Have IT power off the LACE and open it then check and re-seat all cables and connectors, including the RAM

3) Run SFC /scannow from an administrator command prompt and send us the output - see below instruction

4) Run the dism online checks - see below instruction

5) check the memory and hard drive - see below links

• >dism.exe /online /cleanup-image /scanhealth

• >dism.exe /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

When the process is done, Restart your computer.
