SYMPTOMS

• Empower does not calculate an Mp GPC value or generate G11 and G50 peak codes for a broad unknown peak result

ENVIRONMENT

CAUSE

The broad unknown's retention time or edge of peak falls close or just outside of the calibration time range, causing the software to extrapolate beyond the calibration curve's range.

FIX or WORKAROUND

1. Widen the calibration range by entering retention time values for Vo and Vt beyond all of the peak retention times of the calibration standards and unknowns. Try different values that work closer to the peaks if possible.
2. The best solution would be to add another calibration standard to extend the range of the calibration curve to include the unknown completely within the curve.
