Analysis proceeds without warning when there is a mismatch between instrument method and configured instrument stack - WKB100856

Article number: 100856

SYMPTOMS

  • Mismatch between instrument method and configured instrument stack
  • Analysis proceeds without warning

ENVIRONMENT

  • Empower
  • ACQUITY
  • ACQUITY Console

CAUSE

This behavior is as designed.

Empower allows flexibility to operate in various regulated and non-regulated environments. Empower allows methods to be used that contain additional configured modules.

The driver/ICS does not provide commands for modules that are not included in a method but are configured in the console.

In this case the method does not contain a CM and was run on an instrument with a CM configured.

In a regulated environment, this system flexibility allows organizations to run multiple methods on a single system. (Appropriate change controls should be in place to avoid unintended changes in configuration or use. Many changes that can be made to a system are not identifiable by software, so external change controls are required.

FIX or WORKAROUND

  1. Name methods to describe the configuration to which they pertain.
  2. Put necessary controls in place to confirm prior to running that the method matches the console.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

An enhancement request (CRI-2181) was raised requesting an informational message be displayed when there is a mismatch between instrument method and configured instrument stack.
