How can I clean up my sugar sample from molasses? - WKB239299

Article number: 239299

ENVIRONMENT

  • Solid-phase extraction (SPE)
  • Sugar
  • Sep-Pak NH2 (Amino)
  • C18
  • Oasis HLB

ANSWER

The sample could be cleaned up and concentrated by using Sep-Pak NH2 to capture and then elute the sugars while removing matrix components in the molasses.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Suggested starting point for concentration and clean up:

Use Sep-Pak NH2 (Amino) SPE cartridges to capture and then elute the sugars.
        a. Condition the cartridge with 80:20 acetonitrile/water.
        b. Dilute your samples with acetonitrile so that your final concentrations are 80:20 ACN/H2O.
        c. Pass samples through the cartridge: Sugars will retain. Hydrophobic interferences will not retain.
        d. Elute with 50% water. At this point you can elute your sugars with higher amounts of water if desired.

Alternatively, the sample could be passed through a reverse-phase SPE device in 100% aqueous loading step and the effluent collected (sugars do not stick to C18 or Oasis HLB).
