How do I separate an amine polymer from an acidic phenolic polymer in THF using Oasis WCX? - WKB120532

Article number: 120532

OBJECTIVE or GOAL

To separate the acidic phenolic polymer from the amine polymer to recover both for further analysis

ENVIRONMENT

  • Weak cation exchange (WCX)
  • Oasis WCX
  • THF

PROCEDURE

  1. Load the sample in 100% THF; the acidic compound elutes at the load step and the amine is retained by ion exchange.
  2. Elute the amine with THF and 2% TFA or 2% formic acid.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

The load step may require the addition of a base to further ensure that the sample is ionizable in the 100% organic environment. However, sufficient ionization will take place even in the 100% THF because polymer repeating groups are highly charged. Other acids can be used to elute the amine from the cartridge.
