What might be the source of peak fronting that is visible on the Alliance 2695 but not on the Agilent 1100 or 1290? - WKB119278

Article number: 119278

ENVIRONMENT

  • Alliance 2695
  • Agilent 1100
  • Agilent 1290
  • Peak fronting

ANSWER

The way in which the injector needle is cleaned is different in the Alliance 2695 versus Agilent systems.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

The FTN of the Alliance 2695 has a needle purge feature and a separate wiper/frit wash. The needle purge wash is injected along with the sample. This should match the starting conditions of the mobile phase. If the mobile phase contains 30% organic but the needle purge wash is 50% organic, strong solvent effect would cause peak shape problems. The wiper/frit wash can be a stronger wash solution composition, because this only cleans the outside of the injector needle.
