What is the difference between a column Certificate of Analysis (COA) and an Efficiency Test Certificate? - WKB89873

Article number: 89873

ENVIRONMENT

  • Certificate of Analysis (COA, C of A)
  • Efficiency Test Certificate

ANSWER

Certificate of Analysis: Document that shows how a batch of packing performed when tested using prescribed QC testing protocols; provides additional information about a specific batch of packing material.

Efficiency Test Certificate: Document that verifies the Waters QC test result when measuring efficiency on a specific column.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Certificate of Analysis
The Certificate of Analysis is a document designed to show you how each batch of bulk material performs when we tested it using a specified mixture of compounds.
The function of this test is to determine how closely related each batch is to other batches of the same packing (example: BEH C18 1.7um).
This test measures the selectivity of each batch as well as some other characteristics, such as metal content, etc...
This test is performed by taking a small amount of a given new batch of packing, then using an analytical scale column (example: 2.1x100mm) in order to assess the batch performance.
Once this performance has met all of our specifications for a given batch, it can be released as a QC-passed bulk packing to pack any columns which call for the use of that bulk material, regardless of column dimension.
It is expected that, based on the small scale batch assessment, scaling the tested batch into any column dimension, will provide the same selectivity as shown in the batch test (Certificate of Analysis).

Efficiency Test Certificate
This tests how efficiently each individual column has been packed.
