How do I properly connect the XSelect HSS HPLC columns? - WKB73350

Article number: 73350

OBJECTIVE or GOAL

Connect an XSelect HSS column to an LC system.

ENVIRONMENT

  • HPLC
  • High strength silica (HSS)
  • XSelect HSS
  • Column fittings
  • Column connections

PROCEDURE

1. Connect a 1/16-inch O.D. stainless steel tubing to and from the column.

2. Firmly insert the tubing into the column and tighten the compression screw until finger-tight.

a. Ensure that the arrow on the column is pointing in the direction of solvent flow.

3. Place a 5/16-inch wrench on the compression screw and a 3/8-inch wrench on the hex head of the column endfitting. A quarter-turn should permanently set the ferrule.

a. Note: Over-tightening the fitting may cause it to break inside the column end nut.

4. To connect the column outlet, slip a one-piece PEEK finger-tight fitting onto the tubing.

5. Firmly insert the tubing into the outlet of the column while tightening the PEEK fitting until it is finger-tight.

6. Turn on the system flow and inspect for leaks.

a. If a leak is present, disconnect and reconnect.
