Why are SEC guard columns and GPC guard columns packed like little columns? - WKB62774

Article number: 62774

ENVIRONMENT

  • guard column
  • SEC
  • size exclusion chromatography
  • GPC
  • gel permeation chromatography

ANSWER

SEC and GPC guard columns are little columns to create a packed bed that is uniform and rugged just like the columns.  This is to minimize any extra dispersion which would have a negative impact on the efficiency of the separation.
