How do I connect a Guard-Pak holder to my HPLC system? - WKB238052

Article number: 238052

OBJECTIVE or GOAL

Connect a Guard-Pak holder (WAT088141) to an HPLC system.

ENVIRONMENT

  • Column connections
  • Guard-Pak

PROCEDURE

  1. Connect tubing from the injector to the inlet of the Guard-Pak holder using V-Detail fittings.
  2. Connect tubing from the outlet of the Guard-Pak holder to the column inlet using V-Detail fittings.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

  • The Guard-Pak holder is too large to fit inside some column heaters/ovens.
    • In cases where it will not fit into a column heater, the holder must be kept outside of the heater, where tubing is long enough to connect to a column inside the heater.
  • The Guard-Pak inlet and outlets need to use V-Detail fittings.
    • If stainless steel fittings, the ferrules need to be set to Waters Ferrule Depth Setting (see examples below).
    • If using PEEK Finger-tight Fittings, simply push tubing into the inlet and outlet of the the Guard-Pak holder as you tighten the PEEK finger-tight fittings to create a good connection.

Examples of proper ferrule depth:

Note:  The Guard-Pak Holder Kit includes 4/ea Stainless Steel compression Screws and 4/ea Stainless Steel Ferrules but does not contain tubing.
