Can I flush with 2% phosphoric acid to passivate the column? - WKB222774

Article number: 222774

ENVIRONMENT

  • Column care and use
  • ACQUITY UPLC
  • HPLC

ANSWER

No, this is not recommended.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

2% phosphoric acid is a strong oxidizing acid that when flowed through the mobile phase lines and into a column will clean out the lines and send debris and fouling into the column.

Metal mobile phase filters and sinkers exposed to 2% phosphoric acid will leach metal downstream into the column, shortening its lifetime.

Disconnect the column and remove it from the flow path during a system cleaning or passivation procedure.
