What is meant when a method protocol or instruction says that the column may need conditioning prior to analysis? - WKB123700

Article number: 123700

ENVIRONMENT

  • Column conditioning
  • Passivation

ANSWER

Column conditioning steps are taken to further reduce nonspecific binding that may occur for some compounds. These steps may include making sacrificial sample injections to coat system and column surfaces with the sample or passivating system surfaces prior to connecting a column to reduce metal interactions.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Column conditioning may be needed in addition to column equilibration. It depends on the application.
