When is it recommended to use mobile phase additive difluoroacetic acid (DFA) instead of trifluoroacetic acid (TFA)? - WKB74453

Article number: 74453

ENVIRONMENT

  • Mobile phase additives
  • IonHance
  • LC
  • LC-MS
  • Solvents

ANSWER

When less ion suppression is desired for LC/MS applications.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Strong acids or buffers are commonly used in liquid chromatography (LC) to improve analyte retention and peak shape.

For MS applications, high-purity mobile phase additives are necessary to reduce background contribution and ensure data quality.

IonHance modifiers can be used for LC and LC-MS techniques, such as reverse-phase separations of proteins, peptides, and small molecules.

Purified to achieve low metal content and high-quality standards, IonHance modifiers can improve sensitivity, retention, and peak shape of the toughest separations.

Difluoroacetic acid (DFA) is an option that decreases the signal suppression effect (as compared with using TFA).  DFA has less effect on ion suppression than TFA, while still being volatile.  It minimizes secondary interactions due to charge-charge repulsion, thus resulting in minimal peak broadening and tailing.

IonHance products meet the purification standards for MS-grade reagents but are compatible with both MS and LC systems.

IonHance DFA is available in the following SKU's:
